August 2026 Community Update 🚓💙

👋 Keeping Leigh Safe Together

As summer draws to a close, we'd like to thank residents for continuing to support your local neighbourhood team. Throughout August, officers have been busy tackling crime, targeting anti-social behaviour, responding to community concerns, and working with partner agencies to make Leigh a safer place to live, work and visit.

Your information and reports make a real difference, and this month has seen some fantastic results. 🙌

🚨 Burglary Offenders Jailed Following Aldi Break-In

In the early hours of 7th August, police responded to an alarm activation at Aldi, Leigh.

🚓 Officers arrived within minutes and spotted two suspects making off on bicycles with approximately £800 worth of stolen goods.

✅ One offender was quickly detained whilst attempting to escape and was subsequently arrested and charged with burglary.

Leigh Neighbourhood Officers continued enquiries and, on 8th August, located a second suspect in the Siddow Common area, wearing the same clothing captured during the offence.

⚖️ The offender was arrested, charged, remanded to court and later sentenced to:

🔒 10 Months Imprisonment

This result highlights the determination of officers and demonstrates that criminal activity in Leigh will not go unchallenged.

👏 Excellent teamwork from response officers and neighbourhood officers alike.

🚗 Operation Considerate Results

Leigh East Neighbourhood Team joined forces with the Roads Policing Unit to carry out Operation Considerate, focusing on road safety and tackling dangerous driving.

🏢 Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour & Criminality

Acting on concerns raised by local residents, Leigh Neighbourhood Officers have been working closely with Trading Standards to tackle businesses linked to criminality and anti-social behaviour.

📅 1 September 2026

A Closure Notice was served on a property on Bradshawgate, Leigh.

The matter will now progress through the courts where further action will be considered.

This partnership work demonstrates our commitment to addressing the issues that matter most to local people.

Neighbourhood officers continued to support local businesses following several reports of:

Businesses across Leigh town centre continue to work closely with police to identify and prosecute offenders.

🏍️ Off-Road Bike Enforcement

We know residents are frustrated by the dangerous and anti-social use of off-road bikes and e-bikes.

Throughout August, officers received numerous reports regarding: ❌ Dangerous riding
❌ No helmets
❌ Excessive speed
❌ Intimidation of residents
❌ Suspected links to drug activity

We are actively gathering intelligence and carrying out targeted patrols.
